Year 5s making customised hats using templates,
Year 6 pupils have investigated structures. They have studied how materials can be made stronger by folding, or rolling. In the photos below, they constructed a geodesic dome made from newspaper that had been rolled into tubes. Geodesic domes were invented by Buckminster Fuller. He discovered that triangles arranged in a dome form are incredibly strong. Our mission was to make a paper dome that everyone could fit inside.
Year 6 investigate making strong structures out of inherently 'weak' materials. Paper was used to create the tallest possible towers. Pupils discovered that when rolled, paper is really strong in compression. Paper tubes were able to support quite a heavy load.
